Art and Creativity

Leo rules the Fifth House of the Zodiac, the area of art and creativity, so these precocious kiddos are made for artistic and creative activities. What is interesting is that many Leo adults discover only in retrospect that they are quite creative. In school they may have missed the art room entirely because it always seemed like a quiet, calm place, and they were too busy chatting with their friends and building social connections. Parents and caregivers should keep this in mind and make sure that their little Leo children have a taste of art and creativity while they are school age. Until they do, they will feel like the princess from our story — imprisoned inside the bamboo shoots.

Leo children especially appreciate group projects such as plays, films, dance, orchestras, and large-scale visual-art projects that require many hands on deck. Music, performance, color, vibrancy, and high energy are all qualities that the little Lion is both drawn to and brings to any creative endeavor. These children like sparkle and shine, and this shows up in their visual art projects — please give Leo children all the glitter! — and also in their choices of musical instruments. Many a Leo loves a shiny, golden saxophone or trumpet. Drama and theater are often the areas where Leo children feel most at home. They know how to occupy the stage, and they love putting on different masks and playing with different personas. On stage the Leo child is able to let loose and share what she really thinks from the safety of a different character or story — this is often where she feels most safe and most seen. Leo children often also respond particularly well to photography, especially as they get older and can enjoy being both behind and in front of the camera.
